The Neighbor's Notebook Description

The Sharkotron, also commonly known as the Shark, is a secondary enemy encountered in Alpha 1 and the full game of Hello Neighbor in Act 2. It patrols the flooded room of Mr. Peterson's house, searching for intruders in the water, including Nicky Roth.

Appearance

In both Alpha 1 and the full game, the Sharkotron is a robotic device made to emulate a shark when looking at it above water. The Sharkotron is comprised of four components: the body which most likely contains the machinery necessary for the device to operate, a shark fin which is seen above water, a three bladed propeller which propels the device, and a bear trap attached to the front of the body which is used to dispatch intruders.

Purpose and History

In Alpha 1, the Sharkotron is hostile to the player, but not hostile to Mr. Peterson. Should Mr. Peterson go upstairs to chase the player, he will pause and stop at the top of the staircase for a couple of seconds, then will dart across the water without being affected by the Sharkotron. The latter can be frozen by turning the heat off in the boiler room, allowing a (practically) freeway to the second floor. This is a easy way to bypass the Sharkotron completely, but it's recommended to enter the boiler room after getting in the house a differing way, to prevent Mr. Peterson from finding out the player got in through the boiler room and preventing entry from the outside.

In Alpha 4 - Beta 3, a Sharkotron can be found in the lake by the factory, although, it is stationary. In the same build, it is also possible to find the Sharkotron on the top shelf of Fear Darkness and as a static object in Fear Supermarket.

In the full game in Act 2, the Sharkotron was reintroduced but was given a redesign, received a sound for movement and an alarm sound for charging towards the player. It serves the same purpose as it did in Alpha 1. However, the player can disarm and even pick up the Sharkotron by draining he water in the flooded room. In Act 3, like in previous builds, one Sharkotron can be found in Fear Darkness and one can be found in Fear Supermarket. Also, by touching the UEMS (Unreal Engine Missing Script) sign in Act 3, the player will be teleported to the outside world and in the lake by the factory just like in previous builds, another stationary Sharkotron can be found.

Gameplay

In Alpha 1, the Sharkotron can be found in the flooded room, quickly swimming around in circles and patrolling the room, guarding the bell. If the player approaches the water, it will swim around more erratically and pay special attention to their location. If the player steps into the water, the Sharkotron will instantly turn around and make a beeline for them, and should it catch them, it will send them out of Mr. Peterson's House. The player needs to turn the valve in the boiler room in order to freeze the water, which will render the Sharkotron immobile and unable to capture the player.

In the full game, the Sharkotron patrols the flooded room in Act 2 and guards the shovel. It's behavior remains identical to its original Alpha 1 incarnation. The player is required to drain the room, which causes the Sharkotron to lie harmlessly on the floor, at which point it can be picked up like a normal object. If the player refills the room with the nearby tap and drops the Sharkotron back into the water, it will once again begin patrolling.
